About: Bankston, Shugart and Stryker

In 1953 John A. Stryker composed an article for Western Horseman magazine extolling the value of horse photography for the purposes of, “pleasure, advertising, publicity and commerce.” The three photographers represented in this exhibit have made significant contributions to the art of horse photography in the rodeo arena, the top horse ranches in the country and the pages of major magazines.

The University of North Texas Libraries, in the heart of Horse Country, collects and maintains a large archive of horse and ranching photography. The images in the exhibit are all drawn from the significant holdings of the library’s special collections.
