Destination Special Collections: Erwin E. Smith Photography
Erwin E. Smith, pictured below in his cowboy garb, is a Texas photographer who loved capturing aspects of the American West in his work. He began his photography career as a teenager working on cattle ranches, and eventually teamed up with a reporter, who would feature Smith’s photographs alongside his articles.
Smith’s photographs show everyday life on ranches, such as ranchers guiding a herd of cattle, or men dealing with a particularly stubborn horse as in the photo of Edwin Sanders having trouble with Puddin’ Foot.
