The Cat's Out of the Bag: Peter and Donna Thomas Collection of Artist Books
Peter and Donna Thomas Collection of Artist Books
Peter and Donna Thomas epitomize the modern book arts. As book makers they employ skilled craftsmanship in every aspect of their work, from creating fine handmade papers to beautiful leather bindings. As artists their work evokes creativity, playfulness and at times, a bit of the surreal. Nature, the environment and their native California landscape are recurrent themes in their work which is produced as both one of a kind and in small, limited edition runs.
The works of Peter and Donna Thomas contribute to both the artist book and miniature book collections at UNT Libraries. These most recent acquisitions, purchased through the Friends of the Library Endowment in 2013, add to the existing collection of their work in the library.
Their work Tree was the 2013 winner of the Miniature Books Society Distinguished Books Award. Other items included are Don’t Fence Me In a miniature book printing of Cole Porter’s famous cowboy song and An Excerpt from John Steinbeck’s Cannery Row , a book packaged in a sealed tin can, reproducing the full opening paragraph of Cannery Row.
The works of Peter and Donna Thomas were purchased through the UNT Friends of the Library Endowment.
