Dallas-Fort Worth Black Living Legends
In 2014, UNT Special Collections and The Black Academy of Arts and Letters became partners in preserving the history of the organization, and in turn a major aspect of cultural history in Dallas. A major component of The Black Academy of Arts and Letters Records are materials related to the Dallas-Forth Worth Black Living Legends exhibits that were created by the Junior Black Academy of Arts and Letters between 1987 and 1996. Each of these exhibits highlighted Black Dallas-Fort Worth community members who accomplished great things, served their community, and stood as examples for those to come.
This digital exhibit is a compilation of the original exhibits, and is arranged by category. Original biographical texts have been edited to reflect changes in the individuals’ lives since the original exhibits were created.
More materials related to the Dallas-Fort Worth Black Living Legends exhibits can be found on The Portal to Texas History.
